    ...Straight off the Silver Screen.
    Yeah, I know I did the mega disappear again, but I had no choice. The last 2 weeks of October are generally the busiest of the entire year for me, and I haven't reached a 'slow down' yet.

    -School-
    I've had to drop 2 classes I was taking on-campus due to the mega spike in work. I seemed more sensible to just re-take one I wasn't doing good in anyways, and take a different course for another that I wasn't doing amazing in either. The 2 remaining classes I have are either online/in the evening, so they create less of a schedule conflict for me.

    -Stagehand/Wardrobe-
    I finished my last day with one of the stagehand companies I work with. My last gig was 'Star Wars: In Concert'. I actually got to do wardrobe for Anthony Daniels (C-3P0) from all 3 Star Wars flicks. I also got to have a mini-convo with him as he hosts the Dawn Contest at Dragon*Con almost annually, so I got to talk to him about being one of the Dawns/working locally in wardrobe.

    Wardrobe for this show was awesome. The Wardrobe Master had been part of the concept team for the show and he actually offered to be a contact for me when I moved out to SoCal for my Disney Internship. He has ties with Cirque du Soleil's wardrobe dept and offered to vouch for me. (He even gave me Mr. Daniels program--Shhhh...don't tell anybody!)

    I actually got to see most of the show, which was awesome as wardrobe often has 'show calls' which means that you basically don't get to see anything of the show as you're either in an odd position backstage, or you're under the stage working as a dresser.

    -Fashion, turn to the left...-
    I then had a fitting for Enigma Fashions for 2 fashion shows they were doing in conjunction with the Anne Rice Tru Blood & Gold Ball. One of them was for the wine/absinthe tasting the night before, and the other was for the actual ball. The first night I wore 'Dolly' which was knee-length and 20's inspired.

    For the actual ball, I had 2 changes, this included the 'Bryana' in black, and a custom black dress which were both made out of stretch black panne. The event was fairly successful.

    -Running with Alcohol-
    I had multiple promos this past week including doing event photography for Fuse, a sponsor of the official Susan G. Komen 'Race for the Cure' event that occurred in City Park. The day before that I had 2 days of wine promos.

    -Samhain-
    My Samhain was fairly sucky as I had a beer promo early in the day, and then I got called in to do tour guiding later on that evening. I didn't finish the garment I wanted to wear, and the bus was full of a bunch of rude international students. (I also don't care for obnoxious drunk people either, which is what the French Quarter was full of.)

    I did make it out to the 'Boo! Banquet' in Fortier Park the next day which was an absolutely lovely event!

    -More Alcohol-
    I did Dekuyper's MixMaster's Challenge at the Republic the other night. The contestant from New Orleans won hands down, but Chris from Detroit was my personal favorite. (Anybody who hands out fresh pineapple spirals to the staff is my friend.) I got to take home some free Jim Bean and a shaker for being a good lil promo'er, but the event ran late into the evening and I was mega wiped out the next day!

    Which, surprisingly, included more alcohol as I was promoting another wine.

    This continued for 2 days afterwards.

    -Currently-
    I'm working the Helen Brett Show for Lindo until Tuesday! From there I'll have another day on 'The Mechanic' (yep, surprise, surprise!), and then the day after I just got booked to work the pilot for the new Hilary Duff series, 'Falling in Love'. Casting has been after me to confirm for this pilot for nearly 2 weeks now, and they finally offered me a day I can work, so I'll be featured as a waitress.

    Long Day's Night
    I worked the Miley Cyrus concert on Tuesday and was happy to be in lighting when I found out the boss' daughter was working Wardrobe in my place. (She can't sew, I felt sorry for the Wardrobe Master/Mistress if anything went wrong.)

    It was a relatively long day with me arriving at 7am and staying until nearly 2pm before getting 'cut' until the load-out. Over the course of the day I broke it to several co-workers that I was leaving. I know some were glad as the work can be competitive and one less person means more seniority/opportunities for others. Others were happy that I got the opportunity to do something as major as Entertainment Costuming for a Fortune 100 company like Disney.

    I only told my Call Supervisor that I'm leaving out of all the Management as he has been genuine with me from the start. (We jokingly b.s. each other, but he doesn't outright lie to me like the other members of the management.) My Business Mgr however will have to hope that my Call Supervisor, or someone else, tells him as I don't have any intention to.

    I got 'grief' from another co-worker the day after at the Maxwell concert for not busting my ass during the load-in. At that time I decided to impart some wisdom upon him--that I'd just begun to grasp in the past week--as he'd been working as a stagehand for less than a year.

    "There's no place to go from here, so you can play 'Super Stagehand' all you want. But it won't get you a raise, a supervisor's position, or on a Tour. This is the arts, and if you don't know someone who's already there, have the necessary certifications and/or the experience, you're wasting your time!"

    I hope he takes the wake up call and rolls with it. This isn't a 'long term' gig, this is a 'temporary' thing, and the longer he stays in it, the much less likely he is to leave and find something better. Most of the roadies I know right now (people I knew in high school) never even started as a local hand. They jumped into a company that did road work, and got on a Tour ASAP where there's real money to be made. ($1,500 a week is nothing to snear at.)

    My friend has been a local hand for nearly 7 years, and the union presence in Louisiana is abysmal. With that said, she doesn't want to go on Tour, and with the type of 'training' offered by most of the companies here is incapable of going.

    Overall, I've spent 3 long years working to get where I'm at, and I'm no further than where I was when I started.

    Do I work for more companies? Yes.
    Do I have a lot more experience? Yes.
    Have I learned things I didn't know already? Yes.
    ...Has any of this gotten me any closer to my goals? No.

    Granted the wardrobe experience has put me in a position to get the Disney internship, but I've barely done enough pro wardrobe work to shake a fist at even though the names on my resume are impressive. The only reason I *CAN* do it even is because it's often incredibly easy (seriously, 90% of pro wardrobe is washing/ironing), or it relies on me to use skills and knowledge that I've already gained over the 13 years I've been sewing--13 by hand and 9 by machine.

    With all that said I got put on 'Drapes' for Maxwell and because I 'got it' quicker than the rest of the crew working it (which included people having their 'first rodeo') I got pulled aside by the Roadie to help test the curtains/set-pieces/kabuki before the show, aka, I got a walkie-talkie. (This will make for at least the 2nd time this year I've been issued one.) This meant that I got to rack up additional hours. It had nothing to do with whether or not I busted my hump, but because I showed 'selective intelligence' in the presence of Crew.

    I had something similar happen on Miley Cyrus as I got pulled aside from one crew, and paired with another co-worker, to work exclusively for one Crew member without being shared. He said he didn't share his people, PERIOD, and he wasn't shitting either. I told him I might be pulled for Wardrobe (before I found out what was going on), and he said that he'd fight my Call Supervisor over it. 0_0 We did stay with him for most of the day, but got flip-flopped around for the load out--as always.

    These aren't the first times I got 'pulled aside'. I actually know some stagehands who try not to be pulled aside, they try hard to 'play stupid', so that they get easy gigs. (I know one guy who did just this on the NBA All-Star Game in '08 and had the 'horrible' job of gelling lights for the rest of the day while me and 2 other guys ran all over the area hanging MAC 2Ks. -_-")

    Wrapped for 'The Mechanic'
    They're still filming, but I don't see myself picking up an extra day on the set anytime soon as it's only a 45 day shoot.

    Things were relatively quiet on set with only one kind of 'crazy actor' moment from Jason Statham. Ben Foster was in good spirits the entire time though. It was nice seeing him with hair and not covered in poo. (Hey, I just saw 'Pandorum'.)

    It was a quick shoot once it got underway, 3 scenes total that probably won't appear more than 2-3 secs in the film each, we were finished before 8pm.

    I've got to take shower can catch some Zzzz's as I have to be up bright and early tomorrow to do stagehand work for Miley Cyrus!
    1:47 am
    Trying to keep up...
    October is literally the busiest month of the year for me. And while the first 2 weeks were dead, I wasn't exactly 'trying' to get gigs either.

    I'm actually looking at having to get ready to be on set for 'The Mechanic' today. Yes, they're doing a re-make of the Charles Bronson version. This one is going to be with Jason Statham, Ben Foster, and Donald Sutherland.

    I was originally booked to work Friday evening for a bar scene, but I couldn't make it to the set on-time as I had to go up to Baton Rouge, and then back down to New Orleans in an hour and a half. And as Baton Rouge is 60 miles away, and we hit rush hour traffic, I got bumped off the list.

    Now, I know some of you are wondering, 'Why did you go to Baton Rouge knowing this?' Well, it wasn't really my choice. I had to go to a wardrobe fitting for another film, 'Battle: Los Angeles' which is being filmed up there. It has Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodrieguez, and a lot of other people. (Srsly, IMDB it.) I had agreed to a 3pm fitting the day before, after accepting the extra's call for 'Mechanic' on Wednesday.

    As with most things in the film industry, you normally don't find out 'call times' (time you need to be on-set) until the night before/day of. So, Friday comes and I find out that the 'night shoot' starts at 4:30. -_-" I'm still hopeful as I figure wardrobe couldn't take THAT LONG.

    Boy, was I wrong.

    I did 'Jonah Hex' in May, which was a FULL period film. (Meaning that I had to wear period undies and everything.) And the fitting only took *2* hours and that was with putting me in a corset, AND getting hand dressed by the costume designer for the film, Michael Wilkenson. (Google him!)

    Due to the level of disorganization, I spent OVER AN HOUR just swapping clothes out. -_-" And I STILL would've been there past 4:30 if I hadn't told them I need to be IN NEW ORLEANS! (My friend Karla did see the guy who play's 'Hoyt' on 'True Blood' in the catering line and nearly had a fit.)

    Luckly, the casting company is the same for both of these films, and when I called and explained what happened, they were totally understanding. (Hey, I showed for the fitting on-time, it's not my fault that they took FOREVER!) The casting assistant wanted to re-schedule me, but, as already mentioned, I'm incredibly busy for the next 3 weeks, so I just figured I was out of luck.

    However, she called me earlier today with good news that they wanted more bodies for tomorrow's scene, and she figured it'd be a good deal to call me as I couldn't work any other days! I gave her a big 'thank you' for the work, and now I have to be up in less than 5 hrs. LOL

    The Long, Hard Goodbye
    :~: General :~:

    8 CLASSES TILL GRADUATION! (I know! After all this time, I'm almost DONE!)

    With that said, I've been ACCEPTED in the D*sney College Program in Anaheim, Ca as an Entertainment Costumer! This was my TOP CHOICE and I'm so excited I got accepted as it's an EXTREMELY competitive internship. (Interns have a company status equivalent to that of Part-time employees and can become regular part-time employees at the end of their internship, so the company has to be VERY selective about who they hire as they might be there permanently!)

    But...

    I'm also in the running for a Mgmt Internship at WDW in Orlando. 0_0 This position is incredibly coveted, so don't be fooled! It's a 30K+ position at the INTERN LEVEL, which isn't bad for a Lib Arts Major who doesn't have a degree yet!

    So, it's going to come down to Flo-rida vs. SoCal, and we'll know the outcome by the Holidays!

    OH! Almost forgot! I'm now doing nightly ghost tours (no Tues, sorry) with French Quarter Phantoms! If you'd like to have a tour with yours truly, then just dial 504-666-8300 and tell them that you want ME! ^_^

    :~: Artwork :~:

    Haven't had the money lately to invest in a new Tablet, or to purchase the bridge camera I want. However, the Mgmt Internship would allow me to do both of these! *crosses fingers*

    ***ATTENTION ARTISTS***

    I'm open to doing remote posing for artists already on my friend's list.

    As many of you know, I don't do nudes, but I am open to creating custom costumes, etc. (Please see Valeron's "Persephone" for a good example of this.) This offer is currently open to EVERYONE on a Case-by-Case basis. (Print Rights will be discussed!)

    However, I'm not looking to offer my currently posted images as stock. (Sorry!)

    :~: Costuming/Fashion :~:

    I want to re-vamp 60-80% wardrobe into Loli fashions as I'm currently in <3's with a mesh between the Classic and EGA styles.

    I just finished a really cute bolero, and I'm going to be putting the finishing touches on a ruffled, bustle pin-stripe skirt sometime this weekend. When I get a chance, I intend on posting pictures.

    My next projects include some Reno's of current clothes, and this little number:

    Though it won't be navy and black satin like I wanted, but storm grey taffeta and black satin instead. (It's 2-tone taffeta, and it's GORGEOUS!)

    I'll be certain to post pictures ASAP!

    :~: Etsy :~:

    The shop is going to start offering more "supplies" soon! Be on the look out for Waterford crystals, and one-of-a-kind fabrics!

    Are you pondering what I'm pondering?
    NaNo is next month, and while I'm completely swamped with articles, mid-terms, and work. November is going to be considerably quieter for me, and December is going to be downright dead.

    With that said, one of my "43 Things" is to finish my manga pitch for Tokyopop.

    So, when [info]melody_rossiter brought up that she's going to finish her comic, instead of writing a novel, things finally clicked in my head.

    Instead of trying to be the next William Faulkner, I'll pen my pilot, and wrestle with otaku rejection. LOL

    Samhain Costumes
    I'm working on 3 different costumes for the Samhain season this year:

    This first one is what I plan on wearing to the ARVLFC Tru Blood and Gold Ball:

    It's what I'm calling 'EGA - Versailles Dandy'

    I already have half the materials together, and it looks like the only thing I'm iffy on right now is whether or not to wear my next black platform demonia lolita mary janes with it.

    The outfit has a long description that goes with it, and if you're curious about the fashion plates, etc, then I recommend reading it.

    ~~~~~~
    I'm throwing this together is for a random visit to House of Shock. It's also the costume that's going to require the most work as I have to do a lot of make-up for it, and make a very detailed mask to go with it.
    ~~~~~~~

    This one is for work on Halloween:

    I'm favoring the version to the far left as I have everythingminus the top hat, vest, and coat with tails. With that said, I actually have a pattern and fabric for the coat & vest, and a intend to pick up a pattern for the hat, if not outright buy one.

    These are a few of my favorite things...
    I ordered 2 new pairs of shoes. One pair of boots for general wear because I'm tired of having crappy boots that have died. (Literally, the heel kind of cracked apart.)

    The other pair is for EGL costumes, and probably a little of general wear.

    I'm going to sell/trade some of my mary jane's (I have too many as it is) when I get the 2nd pair of shoes.

    My corset came in the mail yesterday--technically Saturday, but I wasn't here so it doesn't count. I only paid $40 for it including shipping and it's all steel--even has waist tape. 0_0 It isn't custom, and it's flat black, but that's what I want to start off with. I have the materials to make one myself, but I wanted something that I could kind of "draft" off of instead of cutting out one of my patterns, assembling everything, and realizing that it's fucked up somehow.

    The corset is also serving as one of the pieces for my recreation of my Jonah Hex on-set costume. I now just have to construct/throw together, the three easy pieces--the bodice, hat, and waist scarf. Then I'm going to have to sew the shawl and skirt together.

    Luckily, the shawl was just heavy brocade-style satin lined with some buckram with a cotton overlay, and a lot of trim on the outside. The back was connected to the sides via fabric covered elastic, and the front has hook and eye closures.

    The skirt is more annoying though easier to construct as it was just 3-layered black sheer fabric with a sequin pattern on it and vertical lines of ostrich feathers and drawstring closure. (The feathers is what will kill me, but I might go with something cheaper, or find a decent alternative.)

    I plan to buy the petticoat online, and I'll probably dye my beige fishnet gloves (that I don't wear cause their beige) black to match the outfit. There's knit stockings and granny shoes that go with it, but I'm probably going to cheat on those as well.

    Let's Rock This Joint!
    -First Tour-
    I took my first tour out by myself today! I totally rocked. My boss walked along with me, and when I asked him later what he thought he said I did good, and he told me he'd bring me a cookie tomorrow.

    I only blanked during my long intro, but it was stuff that didn't matter. My Lalaurie got screwed up, but everything else was fine for the most part and I scored a bunch of tips at the end which made things great since that'll help to make up for the money I lost last week!

    After I make adjustments to this tour, which include changing a stop, then I'm going to get into making/learning the Saints n' Sinners tour, and then the cemetery, and finally maybe an exclusively 'vampire' tour.

    -Back to School-

    Class starts up again on Tuesday, and I have to rearrange my schedule on Monday so that I can get into the classes I need lest I slay my college.

    Drats, Pigeon-holed again!

    It seems like I might not graduate at the end of this year after all. But there is a possibility and it's all hinged on what classes are being offered this Summer. If I can pick up a math class, then I can graduate. If I can't, then I'm going to possibly have a spring semester coming up where I'm talking 1 class.

    This ofcourse screws up my plans to go to France as one of the mandatory classes I need to graduate is only offered in the Fall. I've given serious consideration though to doing a Summer Abroad, but even that is questionable right now as Financial Aid is a big issue.

    I'm working to get new items posted, but my schedule is insane now that I'm a CA.

    ***ATTENTION ARTISTS***

    I HAVE THE NEW CAMERA!!!

    I'm open to doing remote posing for artists already on my friend's list.

    As many of you know, I don't do nudes, but I am open to creating custom costumes, etc. (Please see Valeron's "Persephone" for a good example of this.) This offer is currently only for people already on my friend's list, but I am willing to consider people who aren't already added who are traditional or digital artists.

    However, I'm not looking to offer stock images to people outside of my friend's list at this time, nor to offer my currently posted images as stock. (Sorry!)

    :~: Costuming/Fashion :~:

    I'm currently working on mending clothes.

    I also have Montley Crue coming up this weekend, and right after that I'll be doing Local Wardrobe for Britney Spears/Pussycat Dolls w/ 2 days of dress rehearsals, and 1 day-of-show since they're starting they're Tour in NOLA.

    :~: Acting/Modeling :~:

    I did a promo gig for AT&T at the Sugarbowl. Beyond that, things have been really slow this year, and my schedule has been really crazy due to my CA position and having a full-time course load.

    :~: Photography :~:

    Thanks so much to everybody for supporting me!

    I'm currently up to $38!
